Athletes for a Cure is a fundraising and awareness program of the Prostate Cancer Foundation. We help athletes of any skill and ability as they play, bike, run, race, compete or walk for a cure. Since our creation in 2006, we’ve raised nearly four million dollars for prostate cancer research. For 2012, we have set an ambitious goal of raising over one million dollars to fund research in early detection and screening for prostate cancer, as well as research regarding nutrition and exercise as they relate to the disease. Our hope is to raise awareness for prostate cancer and to fund research to help the hundreds of thousands of men diagnosed with the disease. We invite you to become a part of our “sea of blue” at events around North America. We have teams at events ranging from Ironmans to triathlons to marathons, there’s something for everyone. We offer entries at many of our events as part of the Athletes for a Cure team by reaching fundraising goals. And if we don’t have an event you’re interested in, you can join our Any Event, Any Time, Anywhere program and compete in your favorite event and help us fundraise for a cure. We offer fundraising incentives for all of our athletes, including gift cards, training plans, hotels, airfare, event entries, t-shirts, uniforms, Newton Running shoes and more! We’re constantly adding new prizes, so check our website regularly.
Our opportunities spread far beyond endurance events through our Create Your Own Event program. Each year hundreds of people put on their own events for Athletes for a Cure in a variety of sports including: bocce ball tournaments, pond hockey games, skeet shooting, car racing, baseball, volleyball… and everything in between! If you have an idea, let us know and we can send you a kit to get you started.
Athletes for a Cure’s premier event next year is the 2012 Sports Authority Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Marathon and Half benefiting the Prostate Cancer Foundation. We’ll be out there in full force and we’ve set a goal of recruiting a team of at least 400 runners!
With many opportunities for athletes to get involved, Athletes for a Cure is seeking to raise awareness for prostate cancer, a disease that will affect 1 in 6 men with over 200,000 diagnoses each year and almost 30,000 deaths.
Athletes for a Cure is a force of hope for the many men and families living with prostate cancer. You can be a part of a group of people that are making a difference for millions of men around the world. Who do you race for? We race for the 1 in 6.
